Die Medici-Kapellen sind Teil eines monumentalen Komplexes, der \u00fcber fast zwei Jahrhunderte hinweg in enger Verbindung mit der angrenzenden Kirche San Lorenzo entstand. Diese Kirche galt als die \u201eoffizielle\u201c Kirche der Medici-Familie, die im benachbarten Palast an der Via Larga lebte, heute bekannt als Medici-Riccardi-Palast.<\/span>&#13;\n&#13;\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nach der Fertigstellung der architektonischen Arbeiten im Jahr 1524 arbeitete Michelangelo bis 1533 an den Skulpturen und Sarkophagen, die die W\u00e4nde der Kapelle schm\u00fccken sollten. Tats\u00e4chlich fertiggestellt wurden jedoch nur die Statuen von Lorenzo, dem Herzog von Urbino, und Giuliano, dem Herzog von Nemours, sowie die vier Allegorien von Tag und Nacht, Morgenr\u00f6te und Abendd\u00e4mmerung. Zudem schuf Michelangelo die Gruppe der Madonna mit Kind.
